Summary: This project involves a comprehensive, prospective, mixed-methods evaluation of MyMedicare registration of older adults living in residential aged care homes (RACH), focus on:

  1. uptake (and drivers of differential uptake);
  2. impact on quality of care, preventative and proactive care processes;
  3. health provider behaviours including multidisciplinary teamwork; and
  4. impact on health outcomes including acute health services utilisation (including hospital admissions and emergency department presentation), intermediate health outcome such as medication use, and Patient/caregiver reported outcome and experience measures.

Why this project matters: This project will generate critical evidence regarding MyMedicare's impact on health outcomes and healthcare provision for people living in RACHs. This work will identify where care is currently being sourced and highlight opportunities to promote better health outcomes and access to under-utilised services by aged care home residents.

ARIIA’s role in the project: ARIIA is a key partner in this national evaluation of MyMedicare specifically designed for older adults living in residential aged care homes (RACHs). ARIIA will support the design and implementation of the project and work with participating RACH’s to help collect data. Dr. Rebecca Bilton, Program and Research Director - one of the 15 Chief Investigator researchers from across Australia contributing to the project - is leading this work at ARIIA, and is supported by Senior Research Fellow Dr. Stephanie Champion and Research Fellow Dr. Alix Farrall.
